    Correct

If you don't have steering wheel controls then you don't have the EVIC. 5min? Yeah that's basically crank and go lol. That's why you hear so much noise that quiets down as you go; as everything warms up the parts fit together as designed. Internal combustion engines are designed to run within a set temp range (for heat expansion) so that the components work together as designed within set tolerances. You need to be careful with the start and go, because depending on how long you run it for (your commute) it may or may not get hot enough, long enough to burn off any condensation in the crankcase. If so it will start to sludge up the engine; using synthetic helps with this a lot but ultimately short trips and not getting then engine warm enough for a period of time will cause sludge buildup to happen.

How often do you go out and do freeway blasts lol? As long as it gets hot enough on a consistent basis it'll burn the condensation off...I find it had to believe with a pair like that you don't open them up on a fairly regular basis lol.

Just to pass on some info - 2008 - 5.7 MDS is activated while your vehicle is idling below 900 RPM.
The system is controlled by the PCM which shuts down the injectors and spark to 4 of your cylinders while simultaneously closing the oil supply to 8 or half of the lifters. which is why you save gas.
The pistons still ride up and down the cylinder bores because they cannot be disconnected, so the 4 running cylinders actually drag ( centrically ) the deactivated pistons along for the ride.

So no oil supply to the lifters cause them to collapse because the oil weeps out and slack or a gap is created in the lifter which causes the tick. The push rods are coming off the lifter cups and you get a slapping sound. It is because of this that some engines fail for broken valve springs, valve lifter excess wear and possible cam excess wear because the free floating lifter and push rod are then able to move around on the cam, valve, and rocker arm Lobes.

If you are listening to your engine while parked in your driveway after it has been warmed up ( engine off fast idle ) then what you hear is the MDS deactivation symptoms. and is why it disappears when you are on the throttle.

MDS can be removed from your engine by removing the valves from the lifter valley under your intake manifold and installing plugs from the 6.1 hemi engine, then have dealership remove that portion from PCM program. Just expect to pay more at the pump.

Then you will be free to change your cam but will require a new tune.

Since you do not have an engine light showing nor any fault codes. I would say you have no problems or issues. A bad valve spring, injector, or vacuum leak would at the very least through a miss fire code. A exhaust leak at the header would through a cat convertor fault code.

Personally I would not worry about it until you get some DTC codes show up.

Hope this helps you understand things a little more.
