Put your mind at ease - your key fob chip board cannot be hacked per say. But this does not prevent car from being stolen.

Your 2 Key Fobs are programmed with the vehicle's communication systems through your ignition Skim ( or Skreem ) key modules and vehicle control module. This means that the Skreem Module and fobs and PCM are married together via FCA scan tools and wifi router.

The system only allows 3 fobs in total to be programmed to each vehicle after 3 fobs the skreem module and fobs have to be replaced ( expensive ) 10 years ago it was 7 fobs. and could be done easily.

When this system was first launched many fobs went missing between install and shipping of vehicle people thought they could easily reprogram the fobs to their current vehicles NOT they must have FCA scan tool and access to FCA wifi system.

Start your vehicle with the fob in your pocket and walk away from the car, what happens can car be stolen ? Stand about 6 - 8 feet from car with fob in your pocket can you start the car?

If you lose or misplace a fob and go to dealership for a replacement, The new Fob along with the fob that allowed you to drive to dealer will cause the lost fob to be deactivated it will no longer communicate with scream module even though you have 1 original that will be deactivated and reprogrammed along with new fob. The car has to be connected to wifi.

If someone has access to the onboard modules of your vehicle along with FCA wifi system through a hack they can not only start your vehicle but control all functions of the car via remote control, when they get to self driving cars they will be able to steal your car and drive it away without being anywhere near it. This is why I believe consumers will reject self driving cars.

The only sure way to prevent theft is by disabling either the battery cables or fuel delivery.
Today this can be done inside the cabin and hidden from view because of the many BUS bar terminal connections available throughout the cars interior without splicing into wires.
